Prologue
In the prologue you find Ada waking up in the dead of night to find her husband, Eric, missing. A faint light glows from the guest room, drawing her in with an unsettling pull. As dark secrets unfold, Ada is thrust into a terrifying reality, forced to face the man she thought she knew—and the secret he’s been hiding.
Chapter 1: The Visit
Many years ago, Nigeria, West Africa.
Late 1980’s
“Ada, wake up! Some people are here to see you.”
Ada tried to open her eyes, not cherishing the interruption from her well deserved afternoon nap. She had spent a better part of the day going from one office to another in the unrelenting heat and humidity, so she felt she had earned her rest. Forcing her eyes to open just a tiny slit, she focuses on the face of her teenage cousin peering down at her.
“Hmm?”
“You have visitors. They are waiting for you in the parlor.”
“Who?” Ada asked, her curiosity instantly piqued.
