Relationship Red Flags at The Family Dinner

Relationship Red Flags at The Family Dinner

Ada expected a simple, polite dinner—maybe some small talk and a few well-meaning questions. But what she walked into felt more like a silent announcement of her future with Eric.

Eric’s family members are watching her every move, the food is exquisite and the general welcome is warm. But something about it makes Ada uncomfortable. Ada can’t shake the feeling that she’s being sized up. One of the first early relationship red flags appears when Eric’s ex-girlfriend, Katherine, calls during dinner. Without hesitation, his mother cuts the call short, dismissing Katherine like a smudge on an otherwise perfect portrait. Ada keeps smiling, but her instincts whisper something’s not right.

Later that night, Eric tells her, “You’re already part of this family.” The words are meant to be comforting, but instead, they leave Ada with a strange disquiet. It’s not just love but pressure. It’s like a role is being handed to her… one she didn’t audition for.

Then comes the clearest relationship red flag yet. When Ada confronts Eric about why he’s keeping their relationship a secret from his American friend, Lotanna, his answer is evasive: “To him, you’re just a family friend.” How can someone so quick to involve his family be so guarded around his friend?

That’s when it hits her. He’s not just hiding her from someone. He’s hiding them as a couple. And for the first time, Ada starts to wonder if she is falling into a role someone else has already written for her? At what point does discomfort become a warning? Sooner or later, Ada will have to face the truth: these aren’t just passing moments—they’re early relationship red flags she can no longer brush aside.
